Design and Document | Interiors Features in Vectorworks Architect 2025

Carter Hartong

Vectorworks Architect 2025 introduces new and enhanced features that streamline interior design workflows and provide superior control over documentation.

The updated Room Finishes feature, for example, helps you create, annotate, present, and report room finishes with superior detail and control.

Meanwhile, the new Countertop tool — paired with the Cabinet tool — help you create beautiful, functional kitchens and other interior spaces.

Let’s explore how these features can benefit your design practice.

Room Finishes

The Room Finishes feature offers a flexible approach to managing wall, floor, ceiling, and baseboard finishes. Whether your project demands a simple specification for wall finishes or a more detailed breakdown by individual wall surfaces, the updated feature provides several methods to assign and manage these elements.

  • Intuitive Control: You can assign finishes to each wall individually, use the North-East-South-West (NESW) method for cardinal-specific finishes, or apply a uniform finish to all walls in a room. This level of control makes sure that your design accurately reflects your vision, no matter the complexity.
  • Customization: Use an extensive library of finishes or create custom finish options tailored to your design standards. With the ability to apply up to five finishes per surface and assign coverage percentages, the room finish workflow helps you trust that every design detail is accounted for.
  • Interactive Workflow: The visual feedback provided by the tool highlights each surface as you select it, making it easy to see where finishes are applied. This interactive element improves the overall design experience, allowing for a more fluid and dynamic design process.

Documenting room finishes is made seamless with data assignment using the Space Object. This allows you to manage, report, and annotate drawings with customizable and easy-to-understand finish data.

  • Intuitive Reports: The Room Finishes workflow helps you generate detailed reports that are two-way capable, meaning you can update the model, and your report will update automatically (or vice versa). This reduces manual work and makes sure that finish schedules and Finish Legends are always up to date.
  • Linked Data: The Room Finish feature has all data linked to your design file, allowing for accurate reporting and quantity takeoffs. Whether you’re working on a residential or commercial project, the ability to generate detailed and accurate finish reports is critical to the success of your project.
  • Creating Project Standards: The flexibility of the feature allows you to create documentation that meets a variety of project needs, from simple room finishes to more detailed surface treatments. You can easily store finishes in a project library or office-wide library, streamlining future documentation efforts across projects.

Countertop Tool

Next, there’s the Countertop tool that’s new to Vectorworks Architect 2025. This tool and the Cabinet tool can prove to be game changers when designing kitchens, bathrooms, and more. With the tool, you can create parametric countertops based on manual drawings or cabinet edges, insert sinks and taps, and much more.

With the Countertop tool, you can create stunning and finely detailed countertops, balancing parametric automation with flexible customization and save time managing countertops across project.

For a streamlined workflow with the Cabinet tool, use the Marquee command or Pick mode to select the underlying cabinets and watch the countertop auto-generate the correct footprint and at the correct elevation for your design.
