Where is BIM on the Design Path?

Presented by Rubina R. Siddiqui, Assoc. AIA, NOMA

Architectural Industry Specialist, Nemetschek Vectorworks

Friday, November 8, 2013

3:45 - 5:15 pm

Building Information Modeling, or BIM, is quickly becoming far more than just a catch phrase within our industry.  It’s a new workflow that is being adopted by many firms and architects in order to leverage the claims that BIM can increase efficient, productivity and will eliminate user errors. It cannot be ignored, nor should it.  Just as Computer Aided Drafting, or CAD, revolutionized the practice of architecture, BIM has begun to pave a new path for the industry.  But where do these evolving new technologies fit into traditional design workflows? We will explore the work of several design-oriented architects and assess their unique perspectives on technology’s role in the design process. This presentation will underscore the value of using a comprehensive design workflow with BIM.

Designers attending this presentation will:

  • Learn why leading architects prefer comprehensive design workflows
  • Understand how new BIM technologies fit into comprehensive design
  • Identify when designers transfer design information into a BIM workflow
  • Apply techniques that balance good design with the production needs of BIM
