Benefits & Best Practices in Implementing CAD in Landscape Design (1 LA CES or APLD CEU)
GIS and CAD workflows have taken place in parallel realms for many years and the functionalities rarely overlapped. Until recent years, exchanging these files for integrated benefit would have been limited to overlaying exported GIS images in CAD programs or manually digitizing shapes into the drawing file.
This course will discuss how flexible CAD solutions now have the ability to not only import and export GIS files, but also to manage the data rich files and take the data and the geometry from the GIS files and use it for file development from conceptualization through design development and construction drawings.
Learning Objectives:
1. Learn how GIS files can be utilized in creating base files within CAD workflows and continue to be of use in each stage of site design
2. Become aware of how several CAD applications can modify imported GIS file geometry, referencing its data, to produce studies, including 3D models for further analysis and presentations
3. Understand that planning work produced within CAD workflows can more easily be incorporated into GIS workflows
