Dispatch Header

I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday and that you all are geared up for a successful 2003. I know that we are charging ahead into the new year with many big plans for our products which you will all find out about in the months ahead. As I always predict, this is going to be a great year for Nemetschek North America and for our users.

We've already been to two tradeshows this month, and we'll be exhibiting at one more before the month is over. So if you missed us in San Francisco or Baltimore, come see us in Las Vegas at the International Home Builders Show!

I would also like to congratulate Mr. Kurt Brummund from New York, New York on winning our December laptop giveaway. Sadly, this was the last month for our contest, but for those of you that didn't win, there is always VectorWorks 11!

Sincerely,

Richard Diehl, CEO, Nemetschek N.A.

WINNER PROFILE

Kurt Brummund
Beaumont Condominium Corporation
New York, New York

The December winner in the VectorWorks laptop giveaway was Kurt Brummund, a realty manager for the Beaumont Condominium Corporation in New York, New York. Unlike the previous laptop winners, Mr. Brummund is a brand-new VectorWorks ARCHITECT user. He purchased his own copy for his personal use to assist with his position with Beaumont. He hopes to do some light design work and facilities management.

When asked why he chose VectorWorks ARCHITECT, Mr Brummond explained that he selected ARCHITECT because of its reputation for being the most cost-effective CAD program on the market. When comparing ARCHITECT head to head with its competitors, Mr. Brummund felt that ARCHITECT had the features, price, and capabilities that he was looking for in a modern architectural CAD system. "As I searched the Internet for potential products, ARCHITECT stood out as the obvious choice for someone like me who needs to get more for his dollar. There just wasn't anything else with this type of bang-for-my-buck."

Although he has not had the opportunity to create any "real" designs in ARCHITECT yet, Mr. Brummund said that he has already been able to complete several small samples in his process of learning the program.

Why doesn't the plug-in object's style change when selecting a style 1 through 15 in the Object Info palette?

Many Plug-in Objects in VectorWorks allow you to assign a style for different parts of an object. These "styles" are not preconfigured variations, but refer to a class called styles. Assigning parts of an object a different style class gives users the flexibility to show parts of a Plug-in Object with varying colors, textures, or other graphical attributes. Assigning style classes has an added benefit of allowing users to globally change the look of Objects.

How do I remove all the objects outside a section of my 2D drawing?

The Clip tool located in the 2D tool palette enables you to select the second mode to remove and trim outside of the boundary you create. The removed objects should consist of lines, arcs, rectangles, ellipses, polygons, and polylines.

How can I get my objects back onto the grid?

In the Tool menu, use the Align > Align to Grid feature on selected objects to place the upper left corner of the object(s) at its closest grid point.

How can I stop my drawing from shifting out of view when using the flyover tool?

A common user error is to be unaware of the active mode when using the Flyover tool. To simply simulate a view of a real-world model, select the Center of Selected Object mode. Otherwise, you may be rotating around the Center of the Ground or Working plane. The latter could cause the whole drawing to shift.
