Vectorworks 8.0.1 Release Notes

This document describes all changes made since the release of 8.0.0 in the main Vectorworks application and plug-ins.

Fixed in 8.0.1b7/FINAL

  • Watermark printing broken.
  • Transparent hatch printing broken.
  • Changing layer scales by using the Scale button on the Layers dialog does not always reset the maximum allowable drawing precision correctly.
  • Using the Move dialog with the 2D Reshape tool does not always undo correctly.
  • Progress bar is always black during DXF/DWG operations.
  • It's not possible to print transparent hatches.
  • When you make a polygon with the polygon tool, if the active class is set to use class attributes at creation, the polygon fill style is not set to use the class fill style like it should be.
  • Choosing the Help command in Vectorworks 8.0.1b3 when a web browser is already running makes the browser the active application, but does not cause it to display the Vectorworks online help.
  • colorized monochrome bitmap output fails for encad plotter
  • edited pattern bug where drawpad would not update its pixpats after the edit
  • Large patterned areas of pen or fill take a phenomenally long time to print on Windows to non-PostScript devices. This can cause a print job which took seconds in MC7 to take many hours in VW8 - especially when printed to a large format printer or plotter.
  • Problem with unwanted redraws during DXF import.
  • Bad error message for missing adinit.dat file.
  • Multi-styled text prints incorrectly to Japanese LaserWriter 8 driver. The start of each style run is misplaced.
  • Multi-styled text prints incorrectly to new Epson printer drivers which support text picture comments. The start of each style run is placed at the beginning of the line.

Fixed in 8.0.1b5 (BETA RELEASE)

  • Complex Window.vso, French Door.vso, Overhead Door.vso, Simple Door.vso, Simple Window.vso, Sliding Glass Door.vso - The problem is that if VW users use the 8.0.1 plug-ins as they exist now (in 8.01b5), these items do not correctly cut into walls...the cut lines of the walls do not display for some reason.
  • VectorScript: Using the CHR() function as an argument to a predefined function that expects a STRING caused a crash in Windows.
  • EPS Export produced bad EPS file if drawing contained hatched objects.
  • Text is incorrectly offset up and left by the pen width of the previously drawn object.
  • Dashed lines print as solid lines on QuickDraw based printers.
  • Polylines with the last two edges hidden always printed the second to last edge. Fixing this bug fixed the reported bug where arcs under Postscript were printed with the side of the arc wedge drawn.
  • Fix pen patterns used when interactively creating walls & 3D objects.

Fixed in 8.0.1b4 (INTERNAL RELEASE)

  • On Windows, if no object is selected, you click on the Object Info palette (the info pane is on top), and you hit the tab key, your machine will freeze. Also on Windows, if a control of a certain class is in focus on a palette (such as the color, line weight and arrow style popups on the attribute or the preview on the resource palette), and you hit the tab key, VW will crash.
  • Japanese text entry causes an annoying 5-10 min timeout or hang condition on certain machines (SONY VAIO laptop running Japanese Win98).
  • Circles, arcs, etc. leave trails on the screen during interactive draw.
  • The Edit Mapping button in the texture pane of the info palette often becomes disabled inappropriately.
  • Epson inkjet printers completely fail to print rotated text when using recent Epson print drivers. Older Epson drivers still work correctly. This problem was introduced in 8.0.0J and has been fixed for 8.0.1 FINAL.
  • Add a checkbox to the Print Dialog which says "Send PostScript Savvy Transparent bitmaps". The default will be off. The setting will not be remembered between sessions. When checked, it implies that transparent bitmaps will be scan-blitted to the printer, and otherwise the transparent CopyBits transfer mode is used (ie. like on screen).
  • Monochrome bitmaps can under some situations use the incorrect foreground/ background colors when imaging.
  • If an improper object is added to a mesh in VectorScript, Vectorworks will crash.
  • VectorScript commands for setting class attributes, such as SetClFPat, are passed a classname. If there is no class with that name but there is another named object with that name, such as a hatch definition or a script, that object will be written to, corrupting its data.
  • The "Leader to Left" field is missing from the OI palette for radial dimensions, and the "Interior Arc" field is missing for angular dimensions.
  • Convert Copy to Lines does not work properly on roofs.
  • Polygons (but not polylines) seem to still be exporting a line thickness to DXF. All lineweights should be controlled by color mapping now.
  • Line and arc arrowheads which aren't filled don't export to DXF.
  • Line and arc markers do not observe the "markers by class" setting when exporting to DXF.
  • After failing to export DXF due to the disk being full, the incomplete file was not deleted. (Mac only.)
  • Exported DXF files do not have coordinates relative to the user origin.
  • DXF export should default to exporting both 2D and 3D objects so that 3D objects don't mysteriously disappear if the user forgets to change the default.
  • The DXF "Imported" layer is sometimes set to invisible depending on what state the document was in before import. Also, when importing layers as layers, objects are going into the active class instead of into the "Imported" class (because it's not created).
  • DXF export visibility should include the "show/snap/modify" menu setting so if it is active-only, all others are considered invisible.
  • When a single line of text has more than a certain number of characters, TrueTypeToPolyline will wrap the text after that number of characters so that some letters are fully or partially on top of other letters. TrueTypeToPolyline ignores spaces in a text string on Windows.
  • A problem with how we handle the execution of scripts which are not structured (like the old Export MiniPascal files). They are broken down into "batches" and then executed separately. Runtime state variables were being reset at the beginning of each batch, leading to improper execution (or runtime error messages).
  • View errors reported "end of file" marker as a square, leading scripters to think an invisible character was in their script. Usually it meant that the parser reached the end of the file and had not resolved the sequence of begins and ends, if-then-else statements, or found the ' at the end of a string literal. The reported error in these cases was misleading.
  • Wall Framer model options display as garbage values when viewed on a platform that is not the last platform they were viewed on.
  • Custom dimension standards that were created in a previous version or on a different platform do not always get translated properly.
  • If a class "Test" is created through the VectorScript command NameClass, and the name conflicts with another object named "Test", a class will be created with a dash and a number appended to the name, such as "Test-0" or "Test-1". The class popup menus will mistakenly display the class as "Test" leaving off the appended dash and number.
  • VS error when causing scripts to stop executing
  • Dormers/skylights are inserted into the wrong face. The problem occurs when Vectorworks tries to match where the user clicked to a particular roof edge.
  • If you create a zero volume component (an extruded line, for example), it will report it as being a sweep with the sweep locus inside the bounds of the object, and vice-versa.
  • Tabbing to accept a plug-in object edit in the shape pane caused the next edit text control to not be in consistent state. Editing the newly activated field was not possible until the control was made consistent.
  • The But Join mode for the join tool was changed to always place end caps on the newly joined wall ends. The join now also inserts a half break in the second wall.
  • modebar button outline bug
  • If you undo a solid operation done on a wall with a symbol, the duplicated symbol that gets created after the solid operation does not get destroyed.
  • Improved the help for the hatch view in the hatch edit dialog. Now special text appears in the help box when you are over a control, including an explanation of a previously undocumented feature when the cursor is over the start control.
  • When printing on PostScript printers with the Use Layer Colors option checked, the line weights of any 2D objects may be randomly incorrect (either thicker or thinner than they should be).
  • Solid primitives, booleans, and round walls were not being transformed properly in Strata output. Roofer roofs weren't working at all.
  • On Windows, Arch dimensions that are not at an angle that is a multiple of 45 degrees sometimes have slashes that are at an incorrect angle.
  • Just reported a bug today that sometimes he could not create new VS Plug-ins because the program gave "Invalid Name String" alert even though the name should be valid. Windows only.
  • Removed "symmetrical" limitation on PaintPict width and height widget, since it was obsolete & other rotated bitmap tweaks.
  • AEC Project Setup wasn't allowing users to enter data into the auxiliary dialog if the metric system was selected.
  • Round walls are drawn improperly if they have peaks and mitered ends.
  • The WallHeight VectorScript command does not handle round walls.
  • VW will crash in Criteria Dialog when hitting "Less Choices" button if the row to be removed contains an edit text field with a blinking text cursor in it.
  • 70-7480: Changing the dimension standard of an existing dimension on the Object Info palette does not update the default fields related to the dimension standard (like whether the witness lines are displayed) like it did in MC7.
  • Strata export was not handling csg solids, solid primitives, round walls, or roofer roofs.
  • HWallHeight wasn't working on round walls.
  • When a hatch has a dark background, either because it was defined to be black or because the user has selected the VW preference, black background, no lines show up on the hatch selection dialog or the edit hatch dialog.
  • After the user modifies a wall insert option widget on the Object Info palette, the selected Plug-in Object should automatically get a Reset.
  • Plug-in menu items implemented in VectorScript do not have their interface text strings available for easy localization in constants at the top of the implementation.
  • Place a hybrid symbol in a wall, select it, switch to Top view, use command + [ to edit its 3D component, then use the left hand button on the view bar to return to the drawing. The 3D component of the symbol is deleted. VW801b2 Mac.
  • Bug 70-7154, a Vectorworks Mac program crash during VectorScript execution when manipulating worksheets.
  • EPS Files may use the wrong preview PICT if the EPS file is saved with a thumbnail image.
  • When creating a new symbol the preview always has a black fill on all the objects.
  • The VW 8 align dialog uses different default alignment than MiniCAD 7.
  • VectorScripts do not cause plug-in objects to be regenerated if they are executed from a plug-in tool, plug-in menu, disk file, or DoScript call.
  • DXF class/layer export visibility is not correct - layers are on/off when they should be off/on, and some objects that should be exported in the "make objects on invisible layers/classes visible" option are not exported. A similar bug was fixed in b2 but a new variation was introduced.
  • Arcs in LayerRefs do not get projected correctly.
  • Entering a x or y coordinate edit into the polyline vertex edit control with "Entire Object" selected moved all vertices Except the highlighted one.
  • Homogeneous textNode editing for text nodes was not enabled.
  • Simple Window does not accommodate scale changes when drawing mullions.
  • Strata export renamed and enabled for Windows.
  • AEC Project setup set scales of auxiliary sheets incorrectly.
  • Potential instability surrounding QuickDraw 3D rendering on Windows.
  • Simple Door.vso plug-in fails on the Macintosh.
  • SDK function to create a round wall (GS_CreateRoundWall) does not allow its orientation to be specified unambiguously.
  • onlinepdf.html updated
  • An embedded PICT object which contains text can cause Windows NT to crash while printing the document.
  • Unfilled arcs render incorrectly in QuickDraw 3D
  • Using a marquee selection on the Mac and dragging out of the document window to force the document to auto-scroll will cause an immediate crash.
  • Using a marquee selection on the Mac with the 2D reshape tool will cause an immediate crash.
  • Grayed layers sometimes print black

Fixed in 8.0.1b3

  • Changing the texture mapping options for an extruded or solid modelled object makes the object unselectable until a view change is performed. Merely redrawing or moving the page does not allow it to be selected.
  • With external cell references, when the worksheet name contains a trailing numeral, you must enclose it in quotes. The formula is not parsed correctly otherwise.
  • The escape key should reliably cancel rendering under Windows, Command-period should do the same for Mac OS.
  • Worksheet recalculate is very slow.
  • Cut 2D Section offsets the section that it creates.
  • Changing the brightness of a light in "multi selection bulk editing" mode sets the colors of all the lights in the selection to the color of the first light in the selection.
  • The expand/collapse button does not appear to be working in multi sel bulk editing mode. It should expand or collapse all the walls in the selection when clicked.
  • A Pict file, placed in a VW drawing does not export with the file, when exported as an EPSF. A grey box, with two crossing lines show in its place.
  • OK button in the create rectangle dialog box is not functioning when you check the position at next click option.
  • Plug-in Menu Create Walls from poly does not recognize when the default wall thickness is zero and then fails quietly.
  • The procedure NonUndoableActionOK does not produce a dialog box, as expected.
  • When printing, sometimes the print goes to the screen and nothing is sent to the printer.
  • The 'Proportional' check box and 'Corner Dimension' fields in the 'Create Rounded Rectangle' dialog alternately activate when double clicking the rounded rectangle tool icon.
  • Under file pull down menu, import pict. I selected the command went to my desktop selected all files *.* and I picked a bitmap instead of an error message I recieved a series of never ending pings.
  • If you change the end of a roofer roof to a gable end in solid rendering mode, it does not redraw the roof.
  • Wall Preferences dialog on Mac has OK and Cancel buttons in wrong place. The OK button should be on the right, and the Cancel on the left.
  • Plug-in Object placement does not handle a name conflict with a regular Record/Format properly. Object is still placed, but cannot reset itself so it is invisible.
  • EPS Export with TIFF preview creates weird color previews.
  • You cannot undo changes to light objects in the info palette.
  • Objects in sweeps can be hard to edit if the "show other objects while in groups" preference is selected.
  • The Move Page tool selects every object when it is undone.
  • Create a database row and get a layer for criterium. The next time you Edit criteria, the layer below the selected one is now showing in the pop up list, although the calculation is OK.
  • When entering data into a spreadsheet, if you hold the shift key down for a capital letter and then hit enter the active cell goes up...not down to the next cell.
  • If you hit Ctrl+{ while in the VectorScript Editor, the editor closes without saving any changes (as if you had hit the Cancel button.) Since Shift+{ is used frequently (for comments), it is not unusual to hit Ctrl+{ accidently causing some loss of work.
  • Worksheet External Cell References are truncated to 9 characters.
  • Vectorworks should not ask about changing the working plane to a usable orientation when switching from top/plan to top view or vice-versa.
  • Fixing a compile error in a Plug-in Object script caused VW to crash when resetting an existing instance of that object in the drawing, on Win95.
  • In the Criteria dialog, the criteria types "Record" and "Field Value" should be disabled if there are no record formats in the document.
  • After working for a period of time on a drawing which contains solids on different layers, the models on several layers degenerated to zero volume objects.
  • The 2D symbol tool should be prevented from working in 3D because the preview is incorrect.
  • Resource palette should remember filter setting (i.e. what types of resources are currently visible) when the palette is closed and re-opened.
  • Arcs show a diagonal construction line on drawing when you zoom
  • in, the same line prints as well.
  • Select import PICT file and then select a jpeg file to import. VW does not seem to be able to tell that this is not a valid PICT file. It seems to hang in an infinite loop.
  • Double-clicking on the QArc tool brings up a creation dialog that is inconsistent in appearance with the other creation dialog
  • When using the the multiple reshape mode of the 2D Reshape tool, there is no interactive representation of the hole as it is being reshaped.
  • Layer Transfer modes don't function correctly. Fill is either non-existant, monochrome or like "Paint" transfer mode.
  • Converting an extruded arc to a mesh makes a flat face between the arc endpoints. Same for convert to 3D polys.
  • When reshaping round walls with the 3D reshape tool the screen is not updated correctly and the cursor is not snaping to corner points of other objects.
  • Symmetric scaling sometimes shifts the objects it scales.
  • Layer links become invisible at times.
  • If you enter a formula consisting of the cell reference '=AA1', when you go to edit the formula it has mysteriously changed to '=BA1'.
  • PICT as picture prints at 72 dpi is some cases.
  • When a wall is created with one of the Wall Style tools and the class that is assigned to the wall is invisible, the wall still shows up, but cannot be selected. It does not become invisible until the active class is changed.
  • Symbols containing a circle: when rotated, the circle is badly faceted.
  • Dash styles on polylines with hidden edges don't print consistently.
  • GS_SetClassVisibility callback does not work.
  • We use VectorScript to generate a quite complex 3D-shelf. We use XTrd and MXtrd to generate 3D objects. Xtrd works fine, but MXtrd always leads to objects with no fill pattern whatever we do.
  • Transferring a wall (straight or round) with cavities between documents might corrupt an open document or ultimately crash Vectorworks.
  • Within a Plug-in Object script, calling BeginSym and EndSym to create a new Symbol definition would cause the application to crash.
  • The VectorScript function SetName does not change the name of layers.
  • Joining a round wall to a column causes a crash.
  • The Number format dialog for worksheets, under Windows, does not have a "Boolean" option. This option is present in the Macintosh version.
  • Symbol holes are not cut properly in round walls when the symbol center is not the insertion point, especially in certain flip orientations.
  • In the Spur Gear plug-in object, when choosing the options for a bore and a keyway, the plug-in causes Vectorworks to crash. The script runs OK when run from a script palette.
  • When running a script with no errors, the ErrorOut.txt file is deleted and if you press the View Errors button in the Script Editor the following message appears:
  • Problem occured when opening error file:
  • D:\[Vectorworks directory path]\ErrorOut.txt
  • Fit To objects and Symbol position use the disk name for the external rather than the workspace menu name now, this should make localization easier since disk names don't change.
  • Open a new document. Draw a simple object. Select it. Select the Tools::Scale Objects menu command to bring up the scale dialog. Enter 0.5 for the scale and scale the object. Repeat the scaling operation. Soon you will see a dialog that says the VW can't scale the object anymore... but the object is still quite big.
  • Occasionally, when I ask VW to print, it gives me a giant expanded version of some parts of the drawing which overdraws the whole drawing window, including the scroll bars. It doesn't print.
  • If you change the height of a floor with the object info palette, the bounding cube and rect are not updated to match.
  • if enter a formula into the data display bar after hitting the Return key, the edit box still reflects the formula and not the computed number.
  • The print precision for certain arcs are off.
  • When you change the text in a worksheet cell and hit Enter or Tab, the change is not accepted if you only changed characters from lower case to upper or vice versa.
  • StrDialog assigns whatever's in memory to the assignment variable if you select Cancel.
  • Convert to polygons does not clear the converted objects from the render list, so there are ghost objects remaining in BSP render modes after the conversion operation is complete.
  • When a symbol contains a curve (oval object), and the symbol is rotated and the view is zoomed out such that the oval is small on screen, the poligonization of the oval becomes very noticable and objectionable.
  • Paste of an image from MS Paint results in a flipped image in Vectorworks.
  • Script in script palettes that are larger than 32K when opened on a Windows machine.
  • Create a roof changes the current layer, but previous view takes you back two views.
  • Paste as picture from paintbrush has black line along bottom of image.
  • The VectorScript function MoveObjs( ) doesn't update the screen properly, and undo does not correctly undo the operation.
  • When you change the 3D conversion res, all the 3D objects in the drawing get copied to the undo list, which is like copying your whole document. Undo should just save the conversion res value in the undo list and restore them that way.
  • Workgroup Reference dialogs do not correctly display special characters in path and file names under Windows.
  • Straight walls that have been reshaped so that one end is a point do not work as solids.
  • If you have a rendered object and use the move page tool, the object appears to move with the page but when you have the drawing in wireframe the object goes back to the location where it was drawn.
  • Files which contain fonts with names longer than 63 characters will crash Vectorworks when read on Windows.
  • If the user chooses a VectorScript Plug-in Object toolbar tool and its script contains a syntax error and fails to compile, then VW should switch to the cursor tool automatically. Prevents user from placing an object in the drawing which fails to compile.
  • The AEC Setup assistant doesn't turn the Dimensions class on in many sheets. It should turn on DImensions in all sheets.
  • When exporting an image with different layers, the objects from all layers are used to generate the bounds for export. Only visible layers should be used.
  • Printing pattern filled polygons to postscript printers fails when Print Setup scale factor is 24% or less for 300dpi, and when 13% or less for 600 dpi.
  • Importing a windows textfile containing special characters like ŠšŸ into a worksheet with the Windows version of VW is producing wrong results. I guess the windows ASCII codes are not converted to mac ASCII codes which is necessary.
  • Solids don't always handle class visibility of components well.
  • Solid subtraction does not work properly when the tool does not intersect with the blank.
  • Text size dialog shows too much precision & the text size appears to change randomly.
  • Vectorworks crashes at startup with LightWorks PictureMaker installed on Windows.
  • Vectorworks fails to start with an "unexpected error" dialog if LightWorks is installed and QuickDraw 3D is not. This is a documented problem which cannot be solved within the code.
  • Font Size is changed when converting MC7 to VW8. Open the document of MC 7 included text drawing. text Size will be changed little bits. Ins. 48 points on MC7 change to 48.133 points on VW8 b15.

Fixed in 8.0.1b2

  • Roofs with holes that cut across multiple roof faces do not always render the cut-outs correctly under QuickDraw3D.
  • Typed keyboard shortcut for a command and the left side of the dialog blanked out.
  • VectorScript routines GetSymRot( ) and GetSymLoc( ) don't work with Plug-in Objects.
  • The create walls from polygon command is confusing. The "use existing wall settings" can be easily missed, so it looks like the options are "Thickness: yes, no" etc. I think it would be better to have "use existing thickness" etc. andget rid of the outer box.
  • In the shape pane of the object info palette, the last radio button and the three edit boxes are painting incorrectly.
  • When using Renderworks on the 3D part in the test file, the image renders correctly if the 3D part is given a fill. With no fill the rendered display shows the part at a different size and orientation.
  • The four round wall control point icons do not match their straight wall equivalents.
  • In a VectorScript object, 3D polys that are created by the script are set to use no texture, rather than the class texture. Extrudes, however, are set to use class texture.
  • In the layers dialog, if your entered Z values exceed the range of the current layer scale, there is no indication of this -- your values just won't be accepted when you hit OK. MiniCAD 7 used to give you a System Beep when this situation arose.
  • The EOF( ) function is supposed to return TRUE when the last line of a file is read. This only happens sometimes.
  • When placing a rectangle, circle, etc. using Next Mouse Click, you cannot tab through the data bar to type in X and Y coordinates.
  • When using the GetPt( ) procedure, you cannot tab through the data bar to type in X and Y coordinates.
  • The base of a newly created hemisphere is not oriented correctly on the working plane.
  • Dashed Hidden Line fails to produce the dashed lines when exported to EPSF.
  • If you don't have a Standard folder, and on the Layers dialog you edit the layer name then do a command-N, the change to the layer name will be lost.
  • When a 3D polygon is supposed to be grayed because of the class of layer it is in, it is invisible.
  • Roof in 2D and 3D dropped the 2D version when exporting to DXF.
  • After selecting several items -- appears to happen most frequently with plug- in objects and items with an attached record -- the Shape Pane of the Obj Info. palette will appear as blank. The Data Pane is unaffected.
  • The only way to get it back is to close the palette and then reopen it via the menu (not a simple windowshade refresh.)
  • Origin button in upper left ruler bar not working on some machines for new documents.
  • Fit to objects zooms out to gray space when trying to fit the view to all objects on the screen after a delete.
  • There is a crash when out of memory on dxf import when out of memory.
  • The DXF progress bar sometimes jumps backwards, such as after resolving sym defs. It is also sometimes out of sync with the actual state of progress. Also, the cancel button is slow to react when the file is large.
  • 3D splines do not import as 3D in all cases where they should.
  • Object Info palette does not display the "Break: " widget in the correct location if the palette is too short to show all widgets for a Plug-in Object in a Wall.
  • Wall hatches and dimension-text groups inside a group (but not inside a layer) disappear on export.
  • FAT version of Vectorworks uses too much memory & incorrectly launches even if it does not have enough memory to complete the launch process.
  • Plug-ins in plan view in walls still export 3D info to DXF when the 2D/3D option is set.
  • Creating a Popup or Radio parameter for a VectorScript Plug-in object when the parameter has no items causes a crash.
  • If a solid operation fails because a mesh does not define an enclosed surface, it should report that the problem is with the mesh.
  • Arcs with nonzero thickness turn into pie shapes with 2 radii. (Earlier problem of this happening to arcs without thickness but with 3D has been fixed.) Also zero thickness with extrusion vector should come in as 3D poly instead of extrusion.
  • Sometimes with an object selected, switching panes in the Obj info palette causes the info to stop showing up in the panes. Closing the palette and re- opening it fixes this.
  • The spot light widget is losing its visibility when you resize the palette or hit one of the scroll up/down buttons. Also, when it disappears the brightness slider and some other parts of the palette have all black parts instead of parts that should be gray colored.
  • For some reason, if you switch from QD3D interactive mode to RayMaker VW will try to use RayMaker interactively, like with the flyover tool.
  • Arc polylines swept with a locus to the right of the polyline are not lit correctly with RayMaker. QD3D interactive renders OK.
  • I created a round wall with the texture pane active, and none of the texture items that should have been visible were there. Switching to the shape pane and back did not help. They only showed up (collapse button, left, right, center texture widgets) after I closed and reopened the palette.
  • The collapse button in the texture pane for walls and round walls shows up initially at the bottom of the pane, then moves up to the top where it should be after clicking or resizing the palette.
  • If the field value of a record is selected in the Data Pane and you hit ESC, Vectorworks will crash. This does not occur on the Mac -- Windows only.
  • When using Global village fax software when holding down the option key to fax you receive two page setups instead of the fax option.
  • Solid operations are slower than necessary.
  • Using the column under the model menu you can not change the delta Z through the Object info pallette.
  • When closing the Workspace editor when there were about 10 plug-ins missing from the Plug-in folder, Vectorworks crashed. (Windows only)
  • Walls do not report their volume correctly if their bottom is below 0 height, or work in solid operations in that situation.
  • Recalculated solid operations that fail should be represented in wireframe by a bounding box containing the components.
  • When entering data into a record I can't tab down to the next field. If I hit the tab key twice the cursor goes straight to the top, to the first field of the record.
  • Autocad 14 file produces Runtime error when imported into the Windows version of Vectorworks and produces out of memory error when imported into the Mac version.
  • The test blows through in MC7 but VW seems sluggish, especially on the create 2D objects part of the test. It writes the object to the screen considerably slower than MC7 does. Is this due to the undo feature (set at 5) or something else? It's still fast but I didn't expect there to be that big of a spread.
  • Performance problem: Ungrouping 15,000 objects was a 31 second operation, grouping them took 2 minutes and 20 sec! Undo suspected.
  • Resizing bitmaps and pictures with the 2D cursor or the Object Info palette multiple times eats up huge amounts of memory. Undo is suspected.
  • Plug-in objects in round walls allow themselves to be operated on by the "Symbol to Group" command. As a result, either the plug-in object disappears, or the application crashes.
  • Add cancel handler to Export to LightWright 3
  • DXF import of multilines as walls causes an incorrect out of memory error when the multiline width is zero or the multiline has a non-z extrusion vector.
  • Constants given a value in a "const" statement are not treated as having that value in subsequent constant expressions.
  • 2D symbols in round walls (but not straight walls) are visible in 3D views. They should be invisible.
  • Text objects with hatches applied to them export hatches to DXF even though they're not visible in Vectorworks.
  • Some 3D objects will export to DXF in hybrid symbols in plan view.
  • HVAC Toolkit: Straight Duct , Wye-Round , Offset Duct - These objects draw a white fill that obscures the rest of the object when the 'Insulated' checkbox is selected.
  • The Shift+Ctrl+P (Option+Cmd+P on the Mac) is used by many Fax programs and should be removed from the Vectorworks Workspaces.
  • The Next View and Previous View commands are not included on any Workspaces. They should be added to all Workspaces.
  • The Shift+Ctrl+F (Option+Cmd+F on the Mac) for Send Forward and Shift+Ctrl+B (Option+Cmd+B on the Mac) for Send Backward were left off of all Workspaced and should be included.
  • When exporting DXF layers as layers, the visible/frozen flag is wrong. Also, since all objects in exported containers will be on the same layer when exporting layers as layers, the more convenient layer on/off method can be used for visibility. Frozen is only needed when exporting classes as layers to make sure invisible containers hide their objects on other layers.
  • When importing DXF, many objects lose their z value, or don't come in in the right place if they have 3D rotations, or render differently than they do in AutoCAD, or have similar 3D problems.
  • If you sweep an object left to right, using a loci on the right side of the 2D object, RayMaker will not render the resulting 3D object, smooth.
  • The error output file was present on disk after a script is executed even if there were no errors and the file is empty. The file should be deleted if it is empty.
  • In a worksheet, set criteria for a row to be "Visibility" or "Selection State", save it, then select Edit Criteria. Vectorworks crashes.
  • When a null string is converted to a CHAR, the CHAR is a space. MC7 converted a null string to CHAR(0).
  • Escape key in datapane multiline edit - Crash
  • When editing a symbol, and no objects are selected, you can no longer edit the default attached records on the data pane of the info palette
  • It would be nice to have selection handles on the bounds of a rotated bitmap and pict to do asymmetrical scaling after the object has been rotated.
  • When importing points as symbols in very low precision situations an incorrect out of memory error is reported.
  • Objects with layer or class visible but not both may export sometimes when they shouldn't.
  • Symbols are not traversed to collect lineweight information when exporting to DXF and mapping line weights to colors. Also, the lineweights collected are from the entire drawing instead of just what is needed for the part of the drawing being exported.
  • Many worksheet functions do not cause the document to be marked as changed. Hence, the "Save" menu item does not become enabled. These include Set Criteria, Edit Criteria, and many other worksheet menu items.
  • Undo is not implemented for some worksheet items. These include Set Criteria and Edit Criteria.
  • Memory is leaked when exporting hatches to DXF.
  • If a roof is moved, courtyards in it are not moved.
  • Groups, hatches, symbols, dimension text, and plug-in objects disappear randomly on export to DXF/DWG.
  • You can't assign a new class to a dimension unless you have the "Dimension" calss visible.
  • Unless specified in the script, new Plug-in Objects will now be assigned the active class instead of the None class.
  • When you hit the escape key in the object info palette while editing text from a record the program will crash.
  • If a straight wall break is set to have no caps, the edge of the hole should not be drawn and the polygons inside the frame should not be drawn. This would allow drawing the wall that overlaps the frame as part of the symbol and would allow things like pocket doors.
  • Cavites draw in the reverse order of creation
  • Symbols in the info pal can't take a negative value, this value is needed to bump the symbol down. Also, some symbols can't be greater then the wall height.
  • File names with special characters do not appear correctly in Stationery Files popup ("File New" option). The same problem in Layers dialog and Classes dialog.
  • On the edit hatch dialog, the controls on the hatch view do not work correctly when in page mode and the layer scale is not 1:1. For example, with a scale of 1:2, when you drag a control to what should be 2,2, it thinks it is at 1,1.
  • The symbol editing lines are thicker in Vectorworks than in MiniCAD, they are now 2 pixels wide.
  • Purging unused objects deletes the classes created by VectorScript objects. This does not happen on VW 8.0.0. I made some window and door objects which have different parts in different classes. User can define the line weights and colours in the class dialog. Purging unused classes deletes these classes/assignments!
  • If you use the hatch command from the tool menu when you're in a group, and you do a cancel on the hatch selection dialog, it crashes.
  • Importing DXF points as loci doesn't set the color of the loci to the point color.
  • Some 3D imported DXF objects have the foreground fill color set instead of the background fill color, making them have the wrong color when rendered.
  • When you use the hatch command, sometimes the drawing does not get redrawn correctly after you click on the OK button on the hatch selection dialog. The worst case is when you are editing a group and you use the hatch command.
  • When you have more than one object selected and you use the hatch command, the selection handles for the hatch are drawn as though the hatch were the size of all the selected objects.
  • The internal accuracy shown (for this document) in the window "Set Units" (4 digits) is different then the one shown in the window "Set print area" (3 digits). This happens when the Print Area dialog units are mm.
  • Selecting undo after using the Clip Tool causes an immediate crash on the Mac.
  • If you remove everything from a solid subtraction and exit group, Vectorworks will crash.
  • Need a way to look inside list of component objects of Plug-in Object from a VectorScript. Modified FInGroup( ) function to work with Plug-in Objects too.
  • In the Workspace Editor under Windows, menu items with special characters do not appear correctly.
  • If you flip walls, breaks often appear in the wrong location.
  • When you undo a Convert to 3D Polys applied to a circle, the circle comes back but the 3D poly remains.
  • DXF points imported as symbols should be 3D symbols, and should be converted to extrudes if they have thickness. Also, the symbol/extrude container should have the correct DXF layer even if points are guides, with the objects inside the symbol or extrude being in the guides class.
  • Under Windows, the Workspace Editor does not correctly display all tool icons. Some of them show in bright red. They appear correctly in the application.
  • With multiple objects selected, the database record boxes (Object Info Palette Data tab) are greyed out. I can't select or deselect the boxes...
  • If text is translated from a previous version of the application where the bounding box is too small vertically, drawing text by gray bounding box can crash with DIV BY 0
  • Undo does not always return to you to exactly what you had when editing symbols. Create a rectangle, extrude it, make a symbol out of it and edit it. Draw a circle, zoom in, and issue undo. VW zooms out and the circle is gone (it's really still part of the symbol definition, but it's not shown, because you're editing the 3D portion). Undo should not move the circle out of the view in this case.
  • Purge Unused objects is deleting textures that are assigned to objects.

Fixed in 8.0.1b1

  • The Worksheet Entry does not accept correctly the paste command, Its result is overwrite or paste end of characters when insertion is head of characters in Worksheet Entry.
  • When editing constraint key assignments, the key characters being drawn do not correspond to the keys being pressed. [This seems to happen on machines using System 8.5. -CS]
  • Symmetrical scaling of the entire document does not preserve the origin.
  • Under Windows, all worksheet palettes are always highlighted.
  • Worksheet palettes under Windows look ugly. They should look like our other palettes.
  • dxf import of arcs circles and polylines doesn't create a 3D object if they have thickness despite the import option to not convert to 2D.
  • In the test fileI, i you subtract Sweep-1 from Extrude-1 and then subtract Sweep-2 from the result, it fails. If you subtract Sweep-2 from Extrude-1 and then subtract Sweep-1 from the result, it works.
  • IntelliMouse wheel movement (actual scroll movement) counts as a mouse button down event. This is very weird. Users WILL try to use it to scroll a MiniCAD drawing and instead endup doing who knows what (depends on the active tool).
  • 3D polygons in DXF blocks get ungrouped from the symbols they belong to when imported.
  • I want to zoom way in on bitmaps.
  • If the dimension class is invisible and not the current class, and you make a dimension, it should be invisible, but it is visible until you do something like changing classes.
  • Update Parametric preview after first insert when parameters may change.
  • If you have used the render bitmap tool with a high resolurtion (1200dpi) and zoomed into a small part of the document and then zoom out of the document the rendered bitmap grays out at a resolution that seems dependent on the offscreen resoultion chosen. Unlike text, bitmaps should never gray out. It severely hampers your ability to place them in relationship to other drawing elements.
  • The Convert To Polygons dialog has the OK and Cancel buttons reversed on Windows.
  • Printing non-rotated, solid fill, PICT images takes much longer in Vectorworks than it did in MC7. [EJK - 8.0.1 b1 scans for resoloution info]
  • Adding a column to a database worksheet crashes, if there is a database row with no subrows; i.e. if there is a row whose criteria is not matched by any objects in the drawing.
  • The Engineering Properties command is returning incorrect values for the moment of inertia of polyline surfaces which are not cntered on the drawing. The further from the center of the drawing, the larger the error. In some cases, as in the sample file, a negative value is being returned. The moment of inertia of an area cannot be negative.
  • Setting the none class to invisible make dimension text disappear.
  • under "Create Plug-in..." / "New..." Description text is too big for the description bounding box. On the Mac it's OK. I have my computer set to 1024x768 resolution w/ small fonts.
  • The Rivets plug-in results in a VectorScript error when the Top View is selected for Large and Small rivets.
  • The 'esc' key does not effect to cancel when using 'Create Animation'.
  • Custom cursors for the Path Animator dialog are not displayed correctly on Windows 95 or Windows 98. These are somewhat important since they give intuitive feedback as the user manipulates Path settings.
  • After cancelling a movie, the number of frames is reported using a non-localized string.
  • When in black background, export image file creates an inverse image.
  • Certain instances of polylines drawn to EPSF in 3D produce a corrupt EPSF file.
  • Lines of weight 0 are exported. Weight zero also defaults to cyan, and some other weight should use that color.
  • The Hatching Dialog does not redraw the drawing window after clicking the OK button. More info. Please follow this sequence. 1.Draw Rectangle 2. Select it. 3. Select 'Hatching' menu command. 4. Hit OK button. 5. it does not redraw the drawing window.
  • If the VectorScript procedure GetPolyPt( ) is passed a handle which is NIL, Vectorworks crashes. (Windows only)
  • ForEachObject(cbp, allObjects+descendIntoGroups, ,) doesn't traverse the symbol library correctly. Two bugs: - - Symbol definitions within folders are not reached at all- - The objects within all symbol definitions are not reached at all. IMHO they should be reached as any other objects in the drawing. [First is not a bug, but a design decision that descendIntoAll is needed to go into symbol folders (which are not groupNodes). Second is a problem in CB_ForEachObject where for the allObjects case the travDeep flag is not being added before traversing the symbol list, while it is if you specify allSymbolDefs separately.]
  • Create a big symbol in small scale document. Have it active and create a new blank document that's too small to hold the symbol. I get about 30 overlapping alerts telling me it won't fit and then a crash. See test file symbol.
  • If you cancel a hidden-line rendering, the render mode remains checkmarked in the render menu and if you request a re-render in the same mode, it will ask if you want to re-render everything.
  • In the Keys pane, if you hit delete to remove a keyboard shortcut, the shortcut is set to the delete key. This is wrong, and it causes the delete key to not function properly in Vectorworks.
  • Potential crash for files with deleted classes.
  • Classes and Layers dialogs - can do a multiple selection, but can't change multiple visibility unless the top item is changed. This is confusing - if multiple objects are selected, anything done to one of them should be done to all of them.
  • In VW 8 I am having trouble changing the end position of walls using the Object Info Pallette. When I type in a new value and click on something else, the old value reappears. No such trouble with lines or polygons.
  • Draw Spaces and Update Area Worksheet plug-ins, which are included in the AEC workspace, are not in the Plug-ins folder.
  • The entire screen redraws many times in DXF import and for some SDK functions when it shouldn't.
  • Windows Workspace Editor. The right list box erases the placement line and arrow by drawing over it with white. This works fine unless you have your window background color set to a color other than white. Then the window starts to look pretty bad. And if you have it set to black, I imagine you can't see the selection arrow at all. Need to use COLOR_WINDOW and COLOR_HIGHLIGHT.
  • Plug-in Object in Symbol in Wall does not break wall correctly if "Trim" parameter is on. Looks like it is breaking at end of trim piece instead of at jamb where locus is.
  • It appears that either ReadLn, or using EOF as the conditional in a WHILE loop containing a ReadLn, will cause problems with other statements, particularly statements incrementing values. The referenced script opens and reads the .dat file into a 2D array. Using the default WHILE in the script will display 40 lines data being processed. Comment this statement out and uncomment the WHILE using the EOF conditional. Run the script and check the line count-it will read 0. This is incorrect; in the script where I originally encountered this, the data had been read into the array, but the count was 0. Worse still, use the third WHILE statement (the one w/ a compound conditional). By moving the location of the incrementing statement (lineCount:=lineCount+1) within the WHILE block, you can enable and disable the counting process.
  • Test file appears to have Mac-only memory problems in DXF mtext import.
  • Plug-in objects in walls with some flips will export to DXF with the wrong angle or flip.
  • 3D Section on Roofs creates Roofs without certain lines in the section ( File Name 990129 3D ROOFS )
  • When in tablet mode with a tablet that reports it's resolution in cm, moving the tablet cursor causes the on screen cursor to move about 6 times too much.
  • On the hatch editor, every time the user zooms, the view is centered about 0,0. If the user pans to a location and then zooms in, s/he would not one the view to go back to being centered at 0,0, s/he would want it to stay where s/he panned to.
  • On the hatch editor, when the user switches from page to world or vice versa, and the layer scale is not 1:1, the hatch definition is adjusted so the hatch will have the same look at 100% zoom. However, it currently only makes this adjustment for the active hatch layer. It should adjust all layers.
  • Can't assign the '5' key as a menu key equivalent, but the workspace editor doesn't give any warning/message dialog telling you why.

  • Macintosh Workspace Editor may not properly check the misc. keys when checking whether a key equivalent is already used.
  • inability to use x,y coordinates when using walls
  • The document window title and the section "Recent files" in the menu "File" are displaying garbage characters instead of special characters.
  • you can't change the X/Y position of a wall via the IO palette. You could in MiniCAD. Ex. draw a wall segment. Open the IO palette try and center the wall at 0,0.
