As Chief Financial Officer of Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc., Maria drives efficiency improvements across several areas, including systems and the accurate and timely reporting of historical financial information. She also oversees the company's capital structure and determines the best mix of debt, equity, and internal financings.
- Promoted to the position of Chief Financial Officer at Nemetschek Vectorworks, Inc. in September 2012, following six successful years as the company's controller.
- Implemented an internal control system, added automation for incoming payments and transactions, and streamlined information processing.
Maria's previous experience includes working as a Financial Operations Principal for Capital Financial Group's $45-million-dollar broker-dealer H. Beck, Inc. In this role, she was responsible for coordinating financial reporting to the executive team, as well as the timely filing of required reports with the SEC. She also coordinated the company's periodic regulatory and annual financial statement audits.
She gained additional experience in mutual funds, contracts, and accounting while serving in various roles at the State of Maryland's Office of Legislative Audits, Alex Brown (later purchased by Deutsche Bank), and Chevy Chase Bank.
Maria received a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Maryland, College Park. She earned her Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) credential in 2006, and is a member of the Maryland Association of CPAs.
Notable and Quotable:
Maria's position is a challenging one in that while the company is a wholly owned entity, its German-based parent company, Nemetschek AG, is publicly traded. However, Maria uses her institutional knowledge as an asset in achieving the company's financial goals while developing her department's technical accounting skills.
As Nemetschek Vectorworks' sales grow and become increasingly complex, Maria works to ensure that the accounting department keeps up with existing and emerging demands while striving to increase the efficiency of all accounting transactions. She's also intensely deadline-driven, and she directs her team to follow a strict schedule to meet all internal and external reporting requirements.
While financials may seem straightforward with the fundamental theory that debits must always equal credits, gray areas continually emerge that make the field exciting. For example, during her tenure at Nemetschek Vectorworks, Maria has faced exciting challenges, including making changes in accounting for sales versus revenues when the company introduced its software subscription program. She is always eager to evolve her skills and those of her team to meet such demands.
When not in the office, Maria likes to spend time with her husband and two young children.
She also enjoys rock climbing, SCUBA diving, and skiing, as well as archeology and traveling. Among her travels, she has skied Mont Blanc, dove in Puerto Rico, and hiked part of the Inca Trail in Peru.
