“Anyone that has been on the fence about purchasing Vectorworks will finally do so when they see the cool new features in the 2017 software.”
Excitement about our new release has been building since Vectorworks CEO Dr. Biplab Sarkar and his R&D team previewed it at the Vectorworks Design Summit in April 2016. Learn more about the six developments that are shaping Vectorworks software.
Content and resources likes Symbols, Gradients, Hatches, Line Types, Record Formats, Worksheets, wall styles and render styles are critically important for developing ideas and specifying materials. With the Resource Manager feature, designers have the most powerful and user-friendly interface for accessing, sorting, organizing, searching, filtering and using resources. Designers can browse resources from multiple library sources, including the Vectorworks Service Select online libraries (for subscribers only) and intuitively use many of the resources directly from Vectorworks parametric tools.
The new structural objects feature allows architects to model and explore complex structures that are more integrated into their designs, better control the graphic representation of structural elements and gain greater automation for efficient time management. Key components include Polyline modes for creating curved structural members, interactive editing capabilities in 3D views, enhanced 2D top/plan representations of structural objects and manipulation of a network of structural elements.
With irrigation tools, designers can create zones of similar watering needs with the new Hydrozone tool, then use the built-in worksheets to analyze for water efficiency, which means satisfying a site’s water budget allowance is now easier than ever. Whether specifying lateral and main piping, sprinkler heads, drip systems, valves, controllers or other system components, the automated or manual placement methods are designed to meet industry standards, while giving professionals the flexibility to design, document and estimate proposed and as-built systems efficiently.
Previously only available to Vectorworks Service Select subscribers, the 2017 release of Vectorworks Cloud Services for Everyone will allow professionals, clients, collaborators, teachers or students to automatically view and share files and 3D scenes in the Nomad app.
The reengineered Vectorworks Graphics Module (VGM) enables smoother navigation and multi-threaded drawing for complex scenes.
Designers will be able to communicate with their clients easier than ever before with the web view and virtual reality feature. With game-like controls and realistic walkthrough experiences of 3D models, this feature offers the ability to export designs from Vectorworks software to a web-based interface that works on essentially any hardware.
“I’m REALLY eager to put virtual reality in the hands of clients to enable them to experience design in a way not possible with static images.”

“We’ve been very impressed by the increased speed of navigation using the improved Graphic Module in Vectorworks 2017, especially when designing and moving around in larger models. It's a big BIM improvement for larger projects, and we’re really looking forward to using this with our upcoming projects”
